Driven by a shared passion for Métis heritage, we wanted to create a welcoming space for urban families to connect with land-based teachings. Our journey led us to cultivate a network of knowledgeable culture keepers, each with a wealth of personal experience in Métis art, cuisine, medicine, lifeways and traditions. Everyone is welcome to attend workshops or book an experience at Experience Métis. We foster a safe and respectful space for people of all backgrounds, races, nationalities, genders, orientations, religions, and socio-economic status. How It Started...

Quality, Authentic Connections To Métis Traditions

We started as a couple of culture enthusiasts with a dream to:

  • Encourage a reconnection to culture and nature within Métis communities.
  • Create relationsips between Métis knowledge holders and urban residents through collaboration, mentorship, and community.
  • Be responsible stewards of the land, and role models for sustainable land-use.
  • Renew public interest in how plants are used for food, medicine, and tools in Metis culture.
  • Ensure the continuation of Métis culture, and develop resilience in our youth and families through cultural connection and mentorship
  • Encourage our knowledge holders to continue growing, learning and sharing
  • Increase awareness of the interconnection of physical, emotional, spiritual, mental aspects of health, and their effects on our resilience, self/community reliance through resurgence of traditional practices.
  • Continually develop our network of knowledge holders to connect people with many viewpoints of Métis knowledge.
  • Cultivate a safe space for intergenerational knowledge sharing.
  • Remove barriers so all Métis people may access cultural teachings.
  • Expand teachings to non-Métis people to help with Métis cultural appreciation among the public.

Solution: Grow a community of Métis culture teachers, on a land-base that is accessible and welcoming!
